Chapter on Who is More Entitled to Child Custody
Al-Mughni
Book of Maintenance (Nafaqāt)
Primary text
Custody is not granted to female relatives whose claim is established through someone who himself has no right to custody, such as the mother's maternal grandmother or the daughter of a maternal uncle or sister. Since the intermediary has no right, those further removed also lack the right.
