What is the legal status of a female slave conceived by a Mukatab while they are both slaves?

If the Mukatab impregnates the female slave in either circumstance (with or without permission), she becomes an *Umm Walad* (mother of his child) to the Mukatab. Consequently, neither she nor her offspring can be sold by the master. If the Mukatab gains his freedom (*itq*), her child is freed, and she becomes an *Umm Walad* to the now-freed man, meaning she is freed upon his death. If the Mukatab's manumission contract is voided (*riqq*), she and her child revert to being slaves to the master, and the Mukatab and his child also become slaves to the master.
