What are the maintenance expenses (Nafaqa) related to the provided servant?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Maintenance (Nafaqāt)
Primary text
The husband must bear the full maintenance expenses (Nafaqa and clothing) for the servant, similar to the maintenance provided for a wife of limited means (Mu'sir). However, items such as head oil (Duhn) or lye (Sidr) for the wife's hair are not obligatory for the servant, as these are for personal adornment and cleaning, which are not expected of the attendant. Nevertheless, if the wife requires shoes (Khuwf) to go out to purchase necessities, the husband is obligated to provide them.
