What is the ruling regarding equality in providing sustenance and clothing among slaves?

It is recommended to treat male slaves equally in terms of food and clothing. It is also recommended to treat female slaves equally if they are all designated either for service or for sexual enjoyment. If some female slaves are designated solely for service while others are designated for sexual enjoyment, it is permissible to grant the latter an excess in clothing because this distinction is recognized by custom and relates to the differing purpose for which they are kept.
