Does a wife retain the right to maintenance if she stipulates her own house or city and then surrenders herself according to that stipulation?
Chapter on the Condition in which Maintenance is Obligatory on the Husband

Book of Maintenance (Nafaqāt)
Primary text
If the wife stipulates the location of her residence (her house or city) and then submits herself in that specific location, she is entitled to maintenance because she has fulfilled the required surrender stipulated by the contract. This is analogous to a master who allows his married female slave access only during the night; she is entitled to maintenance because she fulfilled the required access for her status. A free woman offering partial temporal access (e.g., only during certain times) forfeits maintenance because she did not provide the complete surrender required by the contract.
