Primary text
The recognized point for assessing the value for compensation is the moment the manumission (a'taq) is pronounced, as this is the moment of destruction (of the property share). This is one of the opinions held by Al-Shafi'i. The non-manumitting partner has the right to claim this value from the one who manumitted the slave under all stated opinions regarding valuation time. If the partners disagree on the amount of value, the assessment of expert appraisers must be followed.
