Primary text

If the first emancipator does not pay the value and subsequently becomes insolvent, the slave remains free. The unpaid value becomes a debt against the emancipator, which the co-partners compete for alongside other creditors.

Supporting text

According to Malik, only the portion that was originally intended to be freed becomes free, and the remainder stays in slavery.
