Is a partner's retraction concerning their testimony about the co-owner's manumission accepted?
General Chapter

Book of Manumission
Primary text
If a partner later denies their testimony regarding their co-owner's manumission in order to claim ownership of the purchased share, this retraction is not accepted. This is because the retraction constitutes a withdrawal from an admission of freedom, which is not permissible, similar to retracting a prior admission of one's slave being free.

There are two possible views regarding whether Wala' is established for the buyer if he subsequently manumits the slave. One view suggests Wala' is not established for the reasons previously mentioned. Another view suggests it is established because it is known that the slave has a Wala', and since no one else claims it or disputes the buyer's claim, the buyer's statement concerning it should be accepted.
