Primary text

One narration from Ahmad holds that Arabs outside of Quraysh are not suitable matches for Quraysh women, and those outside Banu Hashim are not suitable for Banu Hashim women. This is based on the Hadith detailing the Prophet's selection from Ismail, to Kinanah, to Quraysh, to Banu Hashim, and finally to himself, as the Arabs were favored over other nations through the Prophet (peace be upon him), and Quraysh are more specifically connected to him.

Supporting text

The second narration from Ahmad states that Arabs are generally suitable for one another, and non-Arabs are suitable for one another, based on numerous marriages between prominent Arab, Hashimi, and non-Arab/Mawali figures during the time of the companions and successors, indicating equivalence despite minor differences in status.
