Primary text

The *Duff* (hand drum) is permissible and recommended for use in weddings and circumcisions. Speaking, conversing, and making things evident (*sawt*) are also permissible aspects of the celebration, as explained by Ahmad. The practice of using the *Duff* is supported by the Prophet's instruction to 'beat the *Duff* upon it,' and another narration mentions beating the *ghirbal* (sieve). Aisha narrated that she performed a marriage ceremony for an orphan girl and, upon returning, the Prophet inquired what they recited, suggesting they should have recited: 'We have come to you, we have come to you, so greet us with a greeting of peace upon us.'

The use of the *Tabl* (larger drum) is disliked (*ukrihu*) by Ahmad bin Hanbal. The *Tabl* is considered the reprehensible instrument (*al-munkar*) which is the *Kubah* that the Prophet (PBUH) forbade.
