Is Islam a prerequisite for the guardian of a Muslim woman?

Islam is a prerequisite; a non-Muslim has no authority over a Muslim female. This is the position of the majority of scholars. It is narrated that Ali permitted the marriage conducted by a brother but rejected the marriage conducted by a Christian father.
