It is not permissible for a man who has a free wife to marry a female slave. There is no known dispute regarding this ruling. This prohibition applies equally whether the free wife is a Muslim woman or a woman of the Book (Ahl al-Kitab). This prohibition is established based on prior considerations not detailed here.
