Primary text
It is permissible for a physician to look at whatever of a woman's body is necessitated by the need for treatment, including her 'awrah (intimate parts) and otherwise, as it is a matter of necessity. Evidence for necessity in examination includes the report that the Prophet, peace be upon him, revealed the lower garment (izār) of Sa'd when judging the people of Banu Qurayza. Furthermore, there is an account concerning Uthman where a boy accused of theft was examined; when his lower garment was checked and found not to have grown pubic hair, he was not subjected to cutting (the hand for theft).
