What is the legal attachment point of the dower (Mahr)?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Marriage
Primary text
The dower is definitively attached to the person (neck/being) of the slave. The slave cannot be sold except by ransoming that dower, unless the master redeems it (fidyat al-sayyid). This is the more apparent view.
Supporting text
An alternative possibility suggests that the dower is attached to the slave's liability (dhimma).
