Primary text
If the female slave offers herself to the master in marriage in exchange for her manumission, and he then refuses to marry her, he is not compelled to do so. Consequently, he owes her the value (qimah) because if she is not compelled to marry him in exchange for manumission, he is not compelled to accept her in marriage.
