What is the master's liability when compensation for an injury is less than the slave's value?

If the required compensation for the injury is less than the value of the slave, the master is not required to pay more than that amount, as the payment represents the agreed compensation (*arsh*) for the offense. The master retains the choice (*khiyara*) either to surrender the slave or to redeem him with the required compensation.
