Primary text

A Muslim has no guardianship authority over a non-Muslim female, except in the capacities of the Sultan (ruler) or the master of a female slave, or the guardian of the master of a non-Muslim female slave. This is based on the Quranic principle {And those who disbelieve are allies of one another} (Quran 8:73). Furthermore, individuals of differing religions do not inherit from each other or assume responsibility for payment of blood money, therefore, guardianship is denied, analogous to cases involving slavery.
