Primary text
There must be no intervening separation between the declaration of freedom and the stipulation of it as dower. If the man says, "I have freed you," and then pauses long enough to speak another topic or speaks about an unrelated matter before stating, "I have made your freedom your dower," the marriage is invalid. This is because she becomes free by the first statement, necessitating a new contract with her consent for a new dower.
