Primary text

If she was married under a stipulation of dower equivalent to her value (Mahr al-mithl), that dower also belongs to the master because it was obligated by the contract while she was his property, not by the stipulation itself. Similarly, if one of them dies, the dower becomes obligatory, and death is not the cause of obligation, which indicates it was established by the contract.

Supporting text

If the dissolution occurs before consummation and before the dower amount is stipulated, nothing is due, except according to the other narration, wherein compensation (Mut'ah) should be due because it is due upon separation before consummation in a case where a specified dower would have mandated half its amount.
