What is the ruling on looking at the body of a female slave after she has been married off by her master?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Marriage
Primary text
If a master marries off his female slave, he is prohibited from sexual enjoyment with her. Furthermore, he is prohibited from looking at the area between the navel and the knee. This ruling is established based on the report from Amr ibn Shu'ayb, narrated from his father, from his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "If one of you marries off his servant, male slave, or employee, let him not look below the navel and above the knee, for it is *awrah* (intimate part)." (Narrated by Abu Dawud). The implication of this statement is that looking at the rest of her body is permissible.
Supporting text
The permissibility of looking at what is outside the specified area (below the navel and above the knee) is derived from the implied meaning (*mafhum*) of the Prophetic statement.
