Primary text

If he converts while married to four free women, and is then manumitted, and they convert either during his *iddah* or before him, and then he is manumitted, or they convert before him and then he is manumitted, the marriage to the four remains binding because he is eligible to have four wives at the time their conversions coincided, as he is free. However, if they all convert first, and he is manumitted before he chooses, he may only choose two because his right to choose was established when he was a slave at the time their conversions coincided, and his change of status afterwards does not alter the ruling, similar to one who converts while married to slave women who convert with him, and then he becomes affluent (*aysar*). If two convert with him, then he is manumitted, and then the rest convert, he may only choose two because his right to choose was established upon the conversion of the first two.
