What is the ruling regarding a non-believer issuing three divorces followed by their mutual conversion to Islam?

If a non-believer divorces his wife three times, and subsequently marries her again before another man has consummated the marriage with her, and then both he and his wife embrace Islam, they are not required to perform a new marriage contract upon conversion; the previous count of divorces stands against him.
