Primary text

Sexual relations with a female slave from the People of the Book (*Ummatun Kitabiyyah*) are permissible. This is the position held by the general consensus of scholars. The permissibility is established based on the Divine Statement: 'except from their wives or those whom their right hands possess, for indeed, they will not be blamed' (Quran 23:6). Furthermore, since it is permissible to marry their free women, it is permissible to keep their female slaves for sexual relations, similar to a Muslim female slave.

Al-Hasan [Al-Basri] disliked this practice, arguing that since marriage to a free woman from the People of the Book is forbidden (likewise for a Zoroastrian woman), sexual relations with their female slaves should also be forbidden.
