Chapter on Marriage of Polytheists

Book of Marriage

Open in Qurani

Primary text

If a woman marries a second husband after the first, the second marriage is void because she is already under the ownership rights of another. If she attempts to combine them simultaneously, it is not valid because she has not surrendered the entirety of her private parts (bot'ah) to either, and because this arrangement is not recognized by any people of religion. Additionally, a woman does not possess the right to choose and dissolve a marriage contract, unlike the man.
