What determines the freedom and inheritance of the slave girl's share when one master is solvent and the other insolvent?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Mukātaba (Contractual Manumission)
Primary text
The share of the solvent master is conclusively established as belonging to his 'Umm Walad' status. The remaining share is disputed. If the solvent master dies first, his share of the slave is freed, and the mastership (Wala') passes to his heirs. If the insolvent master dies first, nothing in her share is freed until the solvent master dies, at which point the entire slave is freed.
