Primary text

If the child is born less than six lunar months after the mukātab's manumission, it is established that the conception occurred while the father was still a slave, and the ruling reverts to the previous status. If the child is born after more than six lunar months, the ruling is that the conception occurred while the father was free. Consequently, the mother becomes an Umm Walad because she conceived while carrying the child of a free man who was under the father's custody (i.e., his slave concubine).
