Primary text

A freed slave is forbidden from giving a gift (*hadayyah*). This is prohibited because it is a donation of their property, aligning with the opinion of Shafi'i and the Ashab al-Ra'y.

Supporting text

The counter-argument permits gifting food and inviting others to eat, as these acts are permitted for one who has authorization, and the status of the freed slave should be maintained.
