Is it permissible for the *Mukatab* to pay using wealth of a different category than what was stipulated in the contract?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Mukātaba (Contractual Manumission)
Primary text
If the *Mukatab* gives something of a different category, such as being contracted for dirhams but offering dinars or other commodities, he is not obligated to accept it. This is because he has neither been given from the stipulated item nor from the same category as the stipulated item.
Supporting text
There is a potential view permitting such exchange because it results in leniency (*rifq*) toward the *Mukatab*.
