Primary text

The bequest of the writ of manumission money to the poor, with an appointed executor for collection and distribution, is valid. Upon the executor receiving the money, the slave is freed and the obligation discharged. If the master absolves the slave of the money obligation, the slave is not freed because the right belongs to others (the poor). If the writing slave pays the money directly to the poor without the executor's involvement, he is neither discharged nor freed because specifying the recipient belongs exclusively to the executor.
