If the wealth is absent beyond the distance permitting the shortening of prayer, granting a delay is not obligatory. This is the position held by Al-Shafi'i.

Abu Hanifa stated that if the person has present wealth or absent wealth whose arrival is hoped for, a delay of two or three days should be granted, but no more, as three days represents the limit of what is considered minimal and near, while anything more is considered a significant distance.
