Primary text

If the mukatab seeks to redeem himself before his capacity to earn is cancelled or before he is freed, there are two narrations regarding the required payment.

Supporting text

One narration states he redeems himself for the lesser of two amounts. The second narration states he must pay the full assessment of the injuries, regardless of the amount, because the subject matter for the assessment remains intact and is not destroyed, and he can render himself incapable (ta'jiz) for any injury for which he could be sold, thus resembling the case where his master renders him incapable.
