Primary text

If a master entered a contract of manumission while a Muslim, then apostatized and was placed under legal restraint, the slave cannot pay the amount directly to the apostate master. The payment must be made to the governing judge (Hakim), and the slave is freed upon making the payment to the judge. If the slave paid the amount to the apostate master despite the restraint, the transaction is suspended, as previously mentioned.
