When *Li'an* is not applicable in a case, lineage is established (i.e., the presumed fatherhood remains valid). Upon accusation (*Qadhf*), the established punishments—the fixed penalty (*Hadd*) and discretionary punishment (*Ta'zir*)—are obligatory.
