If a man negates paternity via *Li'an* for a child, and then the wife gives birth to another child less than six months later, is the second child negated by the first *Li'an*?

Primary text

The second child is not negated by the first *Li'an* because the *Li'an* specifically addressed the first child alone, requiring a second *Li'an* to negate the second. However, there is an opinion suggesting the second is negated simply by his denial without a second *Li'an*, as both are one pregnancy. If he affirms paternity of the second child, both are attributed to him due to the principle of established lineage. If he remains silent regarding the second, both are also attributed to him.

Supporting text

Al-Qadi mentioned the potentiality that the second child is negated by his initial denial without a second *Li'an* because they are one pregnancy and the negation was performed once.
