Primary text

If a man vows in Muharram, 'By Allah, I will not have intercourse with you this year,' and then vows in Rajab, 'By Allah, I will not have intercourse with you for a year from Rajab until the completion of twelve months,' these constitute two ila' rulings in two time periods where one period partially overlaps the other.

Supporting text

If the husband reconciles (Fai' - returns to intercourse) in Rajab or anytime within the remainder of the first year, he violates both oaths, and a single expiation suffices, terminating the rulings of both ila's. If he reconciles before Rajab or after the first year concludes, he violates only one of the two oaths. If he reconciles concerning both specific timeframes, he violates both oaths and owes two expiations.
