Is the oath of *Ila'* (swearing to abstain from sexual intercourse) valid when uttered in a non-Arabic language?
General Chapter

Book of the Oath of Abstention (Ila')
Primary text
The oath of *Ila'* is valid when uttered in any language, whether Arabic or non-Arabic. This applies to one who knows Arabic and one who does not. This is because an oath (Yamin) is established using non-Arabic words, and the expiation (Kaffarah) becomes obligatory based on it. The *Muli* (one who performs *Ila'*) is the husband who swears by Allah to abstain from sexual intercourse with his wife and refrains due to his oath.
