If the husband is the knowledgeable party and she is ignorant, the *had* is upon him, the *mahr* is due to her, but lineage is not established, as he is a punishable adulterer. If the wife is the knowledgeable party and he is ignorant, the *had* is upon her alone, no *mahr* is due to her, and lineage is established to the husband because his act was intercourse based on a misunderstanding (*shubhat wat'*).
