What is the ruling when one oath is sworn concerning multiple distinct acts (e.g., eating, drinking, wearing)?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Oaths
Primary text
If a person swears a single oath covering different categories of forbidden acts, such as stating, 'By Allah, I will not eat, nor drink, nor wear,' and then violates all of them, only one expiation is required. This is because the oath itself is singular, and the transgression (*hanth*) is considered single, as committing one of the forbidden acts invalidates the oath entirely. This ruling is without known dispute.
