Is an individual who voluntarily spends on an animal entitled to reimbursement?

Primary text
If one spends on an animal voluntarily (*mutabarri'an*), they are not entitled to reimbursement because the spending is considered charity (*sadaqah*), similar to giving charity to a poor person, thus forfeiting compensation. This ruling is established because the spending was a unilateral act of benevolence.
