Primary text
It is permissible for a person to borrow an item specifically to use it as collateral (rahn) for a known amount of dinars, with a named creditor, and for a specified time period. Scholars whose opinions are recorded are in agreement on this permissibility. It is obligatory that the identity of the creditor, the amount of the loan secured by the collateral, its type, and the duration of the mortgage (rahn) are specified. This specification is necessary because injury varies based on these factors, similar to the primary requirement for establishing the mortgage itself.
