Primary text
It is permissible to mortgage a female slave without her child, and to mortgage her child without her. This is because mortgaging does not remove ownership, and therefore, separation does not occur as a consequence. Furthermore, it is possible to hand over the child with the mother, or the mother with her child, when the need arises for her sale to settle the debt.
