What is the ruling on the pledge being forfeited (closing/seizing the pledge)?

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stated, "The pledge shall not be closed" (La yughlaq ar-rahn), as narrated by Abu Hurairah. 'Ghalq ar-rahn' means the mortgagee gaining full ownership due to the pledgor's inability to redeem it.
