What is required if the state of fear changes during the prayer?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of the Prayer of Fear
Primary text
If a person performs part of the prayer while in intense fear, neglecting some obligations like facing the Qibla, and then becomes safe during the prayer, they must complete it by fulfilling the obligations. If they were riding away from the Qibla, they should dismount facing the Qibla; if they were walking, they should stand facing the Qibla and build upon what was previously performed, as the earlier part was valid before security was established. If they neglect facing the Qibla upon dismounting, or neglect any obligation after becoming safe, the prayer is invalidated. If a person begins the prayer in security, fulfilling all conditions and obligations, and then intense fear occurs, they complete it according to the necessity, such as transitioning from standing facing the Qibla to riding away from it, striking, and stabbing, building upon the preceding parts.
Supporting text
Al-Shafi'i holds that if safety returns, the person dismounts and continues, but if fear arises, the person starts anew because riding is considered extensive action. This is incorrect because the action of riding might be minor, and what is pardoned for the secure person should be more fitting for the fearful person, like dismounting. Furthermore, an action permitted due to necessity should not invalidate the prayer, similar to fleeing.
