If one recites the verse of prostration (*sajdah*) at the end of a Surah during prayer, the worshipper has the choice either to proceed to *ruku* (bowing) or to perform *sujud* (prostration). This view is affirmed by Ibn Mas'ud, ar-Rabi' ibn Khaythum, Ishaq, and the *Ashab ar-Ra'y* (the companions of reason/opinion, referring to the Hanafi school). Masruq reports that Ibn Mas'ud stated that if one chooses prostration, they must then recite another Surah upon standing before bowing. Evidence includes the practice of 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, who recited Surah An-Najm, prostrated, then stood and recited another Surah.
