When is the best time to complete the recitation of the entire Quran (Khatm)?
Chapter on the Times When Prayer is Prohibited
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
It is recommended to complete the recitation of the Quran at the beginning of the night during winter, and at the beginning of the day during summer. This view was favored by Ahmad, citing the practice of early pious Muslims (*ahl al-khayr*). The evidence provided is that if the completion occurs at the beginning of the night, the angels pray for the person until morning; and if it occurs at the beginning of the day, the angels pray for the person until evening. This tradition is narrated from Talhah ibn Musarrif.

Some scholars recommend that the daytime completion should occur in the two Rak'ahs of Fajr prayer or immediately thereafter, and the nighttime completion should occur in the two Rak'ahs of Maghrib prayer or immediately thereafter, intending to commence the recitation at the beginning of the night and the beginning of the day.
