Primary text

Closing the eyes during prayer is disliked. Ahmad declared this, stating it is the action of the Jews. Sufyan, Mujahid, Ath-Thawri, and Al-Awza'i held the same view. The text mentions a weak narration attributed to Ibn Abbas that the Prophet, peace be upon him, forbade closing the eyes during prayer.

Supporting text

Al-Hasan narrated permissibility without dislike. The narration from Ibn Abbas is considered 'munkar' (rejected).
