Chapter on the Times When Prayer is Prohibited
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
The completion of the Quran is to be made during the Tarawih prayers, so that there may be a supplication (Du'a) made between two sets of prayers (rak'ahs). When concluding the recitation of the final Surah of the Quran, one should raise their hands for supplication before bowing (Ruku'). The supplication should be made while standing, and the standing posture should be prolonged. One may supplicate with whatever one wishes.
Supporting text
Abu Abdullah favored performing the supplication during Tarawih, while Ahmad bin Hanbal stated that when finishing the recitation of Surah An-Nas, one should raise their hands for Du'a before Ruku'. Ahmad stated this practice was observed among the people of Makkah, and Sufyan ibn Uyaynah practiced it with them there. Al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Azim confirmed this practice was known in Basra and Makkah, and something similar is narrated from the people of Madinah and attributed to Uthman ibn Affan.
