What is the correct timing for the cessation of raising the hands during the opening *Takbir*?
Chapter on the Description of Prayer
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
The raising of the hands must commence concurrently with the beginning of the *Takbir* and conclude exactly when the *Takbir* finishes. Neither should precede the other. If the person forgets to raise their hands until after completing the *Takbir*, they should not raise them, as the time for this Sunnah has passed. If they remember during the *Takbir*, they should raise them because the time for the action remains valid.
Supporting text
If one cannot raise the hands to the shoulders, they should raise them as much as possible. If only one hand can be raised, they should raise that one, adhering to the principle of fulfilling religious duties to the extent of one's ability. If achieving the Sunnah height requires exceeding the prescribed manner, they should raise them, as this is overcoming an unavoidable excess.
