Must a discerning boy who reaches puberty during a prayer repeat the prayer?
Chapter on Prayer Times
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
A discerning boy who prays within the prescribed time, then attains puberty either during the prayer or after finishing it, must repeat the prayer. This is because he performed the act before the obligation was due, and the time slot's established duty, which is *Dhuhr* (for example) incumbent upon an adult, was not met by his pre-puberty action.
Supporting text
Al-Shafi'i holds that the prayer suffices and repetition is not required, arguing that he fulfilled the duty of the time, similar to an adult.
