What is the end time for Dhuhr according to Abu Hanifa?
Chapter on Prayer Times
Al-Mughni
Book of Prayer
Primary text
Abu Hanifa held that the time for Dhuhr extends until the shadow of every object becomes equal to its own height. He bases this on the Hadith concerning the laborers employed by a man, implying the Dhuhr-Asr period is proportionally longer than the Asr-Maghrib period. The evidence for the majority view is the Hadith of Jibreel, who prayed Dhuhr when the shadow was equal to the thong of a sandal on the first day, and when the shadow equaled the object's height on the second day, stating the time is between these two points. The evidence used by Abu Hanifa is deemed inapplicable because it referred to 'until the Asr prayer,' which occurs after the time has already entered.

Ibn Abd al-Barr noted that Abu Hanifa contradicts the reported traditions and the consensus of scholars on this matter, and his own companions differed with him.
